Calm, Evidence-Based Dental Guides for Anxious Patients

Editorial Policy

The Calm Dentist publishes clear, evidence-based dental information for patients, particularly those who feel worried or uncertain about treatment. This policy explains how we choose topics, evaluate sources, write and clinically review our guides, correct mistakes, and disclose the role of technology. Our aim is to be accurate, calm, useful, and honest about the limits of online information.

Who writes and reviews our content

Every dental guide is authored or clinically reviewed by Dr. Mehmood Asghar, BDS, MPhil, PhD. His qualifications span clinical dentistry, postgraduate research, and academic study. Author names and credentials are displayed so readers can understand who is responsible for the information. Where a topic would benefit from expertise outside the scope of this site, we will say so rather than present a broader claim as settled fact.

How we research and use evidence

We prioritise reliable sources such as peer-reviewed research, systematic reviews, professional clinical guidance, recognised dental and medical organisations, and established textbooks. We consider the quality, relevance, and date of the evidence—not simply whether a source supports a preferred conclusion. When evidence is limited, mixed, or based mainly on clinical experience, we explain that uncertainty in plain language.

Our writing and clinical review process

Topics are selected from common patient questions and genuine areas of uncertainty. We first identify the reader’s practical concern, then review the relevant evidence and draft the article in patient-friendly language. Clinical claims, safety advice, expected healing information, and recommendations to seek care are checked by the author before publication. We avoid alarmist wording, unsupported certainty, and language that could be mistaken for an individual diagnosis.

Use of AI and editorial tools

Technology may assist with outlining, editing, readability, formatting, or administrative tasks. It does not replace the dentist’s responsibility for the final content. Clinical claims, patient-safety guidance, and the overall meaning of every published guide are reviewed by Dr. Mehmood Asghar. We do not present automatically generated text as independently verified clinical advice, and we do not use AI to diagnose individual readers.

Updates and corrections

Dental evidence, professional guidance, and treatment options can change. Important pages are reviewed when new evidence or guidance becomes relevant, and publication or review dates may be shown where useful. If we identify a material error, we correct it promptly and update the surrounding explanation when needed. Readers can report a possible error through the site’s contact page; substantive concerns are reviewed by the author.

Independence, advertising, and conflicts of interest

Editorial conclusions are based on the available evidence and clinical judgement, not on pressure from advertisers, product manufacturers, or service providers. Any sponsorship, affiliate relationship, free product, or other material connection that could influence a reasonable reader’s interpretation will be disclosed clearly. Commercial relationships do not determine whether a treatment, product, or claim is described favourably.

What our content cannot do

The information on The Calm Dentist is educational and cannot replace an examination, diagnosis, or personalised treatment plan from a qualified dental professional. Online descriptions and photographs cannot reliably establish the cause of a symptom. Urgent warning signs—including difficulty breathing or swallowing, rapidly increasing facial or neck swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, severe worsening pain, fever, or spreading infection—require prompt professional or emergency care.
